Texas Medical Liability Trust awards one $5,000 scholarship to a medical student each October.
Mayank Aranke, a third-year medical student at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine, was named the 2017 recipient, according to a news release from TMLT.
Recipients are chosen based on financial need and a written essay, according to a news release from TMLT.
Aranke earned a Bachelor of Science degree in public health and biostatistics at The University of Texas in Austin.
