Those who support Northeastern Junior College students through scholarships were honored recently at the NJC Foundation's annual Donor Scholarship Luncheon.
The foundation awarded over $50,000 in individual donor scholarships for the 2017-2018 school year. One donor, Bob Plank, was recognized for his additional efforts to leverage matching funds from the Colorado Opportunity Scholarship Initiative (COSI). COSI, a program of the Colorado Department of Higher Education, was created in 2014 "to increase the attainment of postsecondary credentials and degrees for underserved students in Colorado" by addressing accessibility and affordability issues. Part of the initiative includes matching funds for scholarship foundations that assist their students with covering the costs of higher education.

Plank "went above and beyond, reaching out to community members for their support to help the NJC Foundation create over 20 scholarships opportunities" using the COSI matching funds, a release from the foundation notes.
The luncheon also included recognition of the student recipients who benefit from the donor scholarships. Scholarship recipient Abbey Brower spoke a heart full thank you to all the donors for their support to NJC students. Brower received of the O'Connell Towne Scholarship and the Zion Congregational Church — Colorado Opportunity Scholarship Initiative.
"The NJC Foundation would like to thank all of the donors, those that have supported NJC over many years and to our new friends," said Kathy Reinhardt, executive director of the NJC Foundation. "To the students we greatly appreciate you choosing to be a part of the NJC family, as we could not do this work without all of you."
