RSEC Academy Recognizes Student with Founders Scholarship

AMHERST, NH – The RSEC Academy, a nonprofit high school program focused on experiential learning, is proud to recognize senior Anthonee Mantia as the recipient of its $1,000 Founders Scholarship in recognition for his hard work, determination, and academic excellence. Mantia, who graduated from The Academy in June, plans to attend Southern New Hampshire University.

"We are incredibly proud of Anthonee and look forward to seeing what he achieves next," said Janet Reed, The Academy's director. "Anthonee is an exemplary first recipient for this award because he's grown tremendously during his time with us, and we know he will continue to break down barriers to accomplish his goals."

Mantia is consistently recognized on the honor roll, has participated in several of the school's presentation nights, and was involved in sports and community service events during his academic career at The Academy. He will attend SNHU's Advantage program in Salem, where he will pursue a two-year associate degree and automatic acceptance into the school's on-campus undergraduate day program or the college's online and continuing education program.

The scholarship, named in honor of J. Philip "Phil" Boucher, RSEC's founder and first director, was established this year to recognize and encourage outstanding graduates of The Academy and its sister program, Longview School in Deerfield, who are enrolled in post-secondary or training education. Boucher died in March, leaving a legacy of providing opportunities for people with disabilities to reach new heights. His tireless work in special education spanned decades, including founding RSEC in 1974.

"This scholarship honors students who have overcome challenges both inside and outside of the classroom, and who are successful despite them," said Judy Koch, RSEC's executive director. "We hope the lessons learned here will provide others with the resources and inspiration to continue Phil's legacy of inclusion and perseverance."
