Ronald McDonald House Charities Oklahoma City awards scholarships to Edmond students

OKLAHOMA CITY — Ronald McDonald House Charities Oklahoma City awarded six Edmond students with college scholarships during a reception on June 12 at the Integris Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City. The Charity awarded a total of $115,500 in college scholarships to 57 graduating high school seniors from 26 cities across Oklahoma and north Texas.

The organization awarded Trent DeClouette, Isha Jhingan, Claire Oldham and Desiree Samuel each with a $1,500 scholarship. Yi Chun Chen was awarded a $2,000 scholarship and Amber Chaves Rojas was awarded an $8,000 scholarship.

Four scholarship programs are offered to applicants. High school seniors apply for the scholarships online and recipients are selected based on academic achievement, leadership, community involvement, financial need and a personal essay. Ronald McDonald House Charities Oklahoma City has awarded more than $700,000 in scholarships since 2003.

"We're committed to providing students opportunities to continue building promising futures with the financial support of the RMHC scholarship program," said Susan Adams, president and chief executive officer of Ronald McDonald House Charities Oklahoma City. "We know this year's scholarship recipients have worked diligently to pursue their college dreams, and we're proud to help these promising young leaders turn their dream into reality."

Adams and her husband have three children. Two of them graduated from Santa Fe High School.

Ronald McDonald House Charities Oklahoma City is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that benefits children by providing a 'home away from home' every day of the year for families with seriously ill or injured children who come to the Oklahoma City area for medical treatment. Families are offered a choice of staying at one of two Ronald McDonald Houses® or the Ronald McDonald Family Room located inside The Children's Hospital. Each provides lodging, meals and many extras, including the opportunity to share their experience with others going through similar hardships.
