CHERRY HILL - A Township resident will be Bali-bound after winning an international volunteer scholarship.

Special education teacher Taylor Franks beat out 1,600 other applicants from around the world to be awarded the 2016 International Volunteers HQ (IVHQ) Teach & Volunteer Abroad Scholarship.

Franks rose to the top of the pack with community support, picking up 2,682 votes for the award.

"I am incredibly thrilled and grateful for this opportunity to volunteer again with IVHQ," Franks said in a news release.

In 2015, the 24­-year­ old volunteered in Madagascar on IVHQ's Forest Conservation project. She says the experience fueled her desire to do more.

With the scholarship, Franks will have the opportunity to gain a Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) certification before traveling abroad to support a Teaching English project in Bali.
