UA adds $300,000 in funds as scholarship rolls rise

The University of Arkansas on Wednesday announced $300,000 in new scholarship funds for in-state students.

The number of freshmen receiving scholarship offers increased 19 percent this year, including a 33 percent increase in the number of in-state freshman receiving aid, according to a news release.

The school said in the release it has a scholarship budget of $9.4 million, and the new funding partially makes up for a reduction of money available to freshmen from the Arkansas Scholarship Lottery.

"I want to reach out to talented, hardworking students across the state and let them know that the University of Arkansas will support them any way we can," Arkansas Chancellor Joseph Steinmetz said in the release.

The school said the $300,000 will come from various sources, including individual colleges and schools.
