Sports memorabilia, gift certificates to local businesses and cruise packages are among the items being auctioned off by the Delaware Small Business Chamber.

Nearly 40 items are up for bid this year as part of the organization's annual scholarship fundraiser.

The goal of the auction is to raise $20,000 for scholarships that will be awarded to high school seniors who plan to enroll in business courses at any Delaware college or university.

"Our hope is to raise enough to give away 40 scholarships of $500 each," said chamber founder and CEO Bob Older. "Every last cent we raise, no matter how much it is, will go to those scholarships."

The hope, Older said, is that each student eventually opens their own small business in the state.

The chamber also awards a $2,500 scholarship each year to a Wilmington University student through funds raised from its annual Delaware Consumer Expo and World Championship Scrapple Recipe Cook-Off.

The chamber hopes to award two large scholarships this year, as well as the smaller scholarships funded by the auction.

The items up for auction this year include a signed photograph of Tiger Woods and Michael Jordan, replica Baltimore Ravens Super Bowl rings, a replica Phillies 2008 World Series Ring , "Born in the U.S.A." lyrics signed by Bruce Springsteen, Caribbean cruises, $100 gift certificates to Abbott's Grill and more.

Some items can be purchased outright while other require a winning bid. Donations also are being accepted.
