Local foundation announces scholarship recipients

The Webb County Better Community Foundation awarded an academic collegiate scholarship to local high school seniors during a special ceremony held at the 49th District Court on Monday.

The foundation reviewed hundreds of applicants from every high school. The recipients chosen were students who demonstrated a commitment to excellence throughout their high school career in academics, athletics, extracurricular activities as well as community involvement.

The $1,000 scholarship will aid high school seniors with financial assistance to students wanting to pursue a college degree in any field.

This is the second year the WCBCF provides a scholarship opportunity to students.

The following students were the scholarship recipients:

  • Jorge Riojas, United South High School
  • Daniel Castillo, Alexander High School
