First year Tarkington teacher receives national award

Danielle Pawlak, first year teacher at Tarkington Elementary School, was awarded Friday with a full scholarship to pursue a Master's Degree through Ashford University's online program. The scholarship was awarded by Dr. Joen Larson, Dean of Students at Ashford University, in partnership with the No Excuses University network of schools.

"I'm so honored to receive this scholarship," Pawlak said. "I am grateful for the opportunity to continue to learn in order to best support and challenge my students."

The full tuition scholarship was available to any teacher from a No Excuses University school. Pawlak's application was selected based on her essay of what it means to her to work in No Excuses school.

The No Excuses University Network of Schools is comprised of schools nationwide that support and encourage their students to believe that attending college and being academically successful is possible for all students, regardless of background. Tarkingt on Elementary School became a No Excuses University school in 2010.

Ashford University provides online support and resources to the more than 200 No Excuses University member schools.

"We greatly appreciate the support of Ashford University and the No Excuses University Network," said Joe Arduino, Principal of Tarkington Elementary School. "This partnership provides teachers, and by extension, their students, the opportunity to continue to grow."
