An Upstate fireman has started fundraising to provide five scholarships for Wren High School students in honor of a classmate and two others who died in a wreck this week.

Tom Thomas, deputy chief at the Parker District Fire Department, created the Danielle Williams Memorial Academic Scholarship Fund. The goal is to raise $5,000 to give five $1,000 scholarships to students in Wren's upcoming graduating class.

Danielle Megan Williams, 17, of Liberty, died in a one-car wreck Sunday night with Kayla Lee Mann, 21, of Piedmont, and Lance Jones, 20, of Piedmont. Williams was a senior at Wren High.

"It's just been bothering me every since it happened," Thomas told The Greenville News. "I wished I could do something to fix it all but I can't. So I'm just trying to do what I can do to help that family out."

Thomas said he has worked with Williams' father, James "Jimbo" Williams, for about 15 years. The fundraising campaign on www.givesendgo.com had already raised more than $1,000 as of Wednesday afternoon.

Williams was born in Greenville and a member of Lighthouse Baptist Church, her obituary said. Her funeral is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Friday at Oak Grove Baptist Church. Visitation is set for 6-9 p.m. Thursday at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest.

"She was a very smart young lady," Thomas said. "She just had a great career ahead of her."

Mann, also born in Greenville, was a "sweet, adorable angel who brought happiness and joy to whomever she met," her family said in her obituary. Mann's memorial service is scheduled for 3 p.m. Friday at Mt. Springs Baptist Church with visitation following at the church.

Jones' funeral is scheduled for Saturday, his obituary said. Visitation is set for 1-2:30 p.m. Saturday at Gray Mortuary in Pelzer and a graveside service will follow at 3 p.m. Saturday at Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
