New Scholarship Available for East Texas Schools

East Texas Communities Foundation (ETCF) is currently accepting applications for Kathy's Kids Scholarship. Two, $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to graduating high school seniors from the following East Texas High Schools: Gladewater, Hallsville, Kilgore, Longview, New Diana, Pine Tree, Spring Hill and White Oak.

Kathy's Kids scholarship is open to graduating high school seniors with a minimum GPA of 2.5 who are current participants in the Forever Friends mentoring program of the city of Longview office of Partners for Prevention. Eligible students have until 5 p.m. March 31 to submit their applications online.

"This scholarship was established in honor of Kathy Smith," East Texas Communities Foundation President Kyle Penney said. "Kathy was born in 1962 with a rare genetic condition that left her unable to communicate verbally, yet she has made a difference and has been able to overcome so much in her life."

The intention of the Kathy's Kids scholarship is to provide educational scholarships to young women in the Longview area who, like Kathy, have faced adversity.

Graduating seniors attending high schools in the Longview area are encouraged to apply for this and other scholarships available at East Texas Communities Foundation by logging onto www.ETCF.org and going to the scholarships tab.
